I asked Ben to repeat the same sentences from my last Audio posts. If you listen to mine and then listen to this, it is terribly sad how awful I am. Although, I do feel good about understanding what I am saying and not just memorizing what I hear and regurgitating it. But after listening to Ben I know I have a long way to go.

I decided to branch out today and try to learn some new vocabulary using something other than Michel Thomas Method. I listened to a few ChinesePod Podcasts and found this girl Peggy on Youtube help me understand numbers.
She did a good job of pronouncing the numbers along with demonstrating how they display them with their fingers. Which is quite different from the way we do it. In fact, if you watch, I have no idea how they are able to display the number nine, or “Joe” which is how it would be pronounced for an English speaker. They hold up all of their fingers and thumb but their pinkie. Yes, their pinkie stays down while the rest of their fingers and thumb remain up. I have been trying to do it and I can’t. I guess this will truly separate me from all Chinese speakers, other than the fact that I am white.

This is all I’ve got to report:
My 5 year old son, Kieran, started kindergarten two weeks ago, and his school offers spanish classes three times a week. Kieran seems to love this class and talks more about it than any other. This is what he has to say yesterday:
“There are a lot of kids in my class who speak Spanish”
“Oh yeah?” I say.
“They’re really good at Spanish class.”

I have been awful in documenting my progress lately. I blame a few things:
1) The World Cup
2) Soccer
3) Futbol
Once the World Cup started I slowed down and was not listening to my audio CDs. It was certainly not a good thing taking a break, but sometimes it is good stepping away from something and then picking it back up. This method helps realize whether you are just memorizing things or actually comprehending them.
I am finally into the third audio CD and progressing nicely. I feel like after finishing all of these CDs, I will have a strong base to then try and expand my vocabulary. It is now a matter of how long it will take to get through the rest of the CDs. It has taken me almost 3 months to listen to 3 of them. But I am also listening to each CD almost 10-15 times before moving onto the next one.
Since it has been so long since I’ve posted something, I had to include some audio of my progression. So below are 4 snippets of a few sentences I can now string together. I will have Ben listen and leave comments on what I said and how well they are pronounce.
